Slowly falling inflation expected in 2024 For the time being, we expect little progress in the further decline in inflation. This is mainly because the strong downward pressure from energy inflation will gradually ease in the coming months. From the second half of the year at the latest, energy prices are likely to show positive rates of change again and thus exert upward pressure on inflation. In contrast, we expect food prices and core inflation to continue to fall slightly. From a monetary policy perspective, the focus will be particularly strongly on the development of prices for service providers, which have recently stabilized at a still above-average level of 4.0% y/y. We assume that the ECB wants to see a stable, continuous downward trend in this area in the coming months. |
