US Fed cuts rates further

At today's meeting the FOMC, the interest-rate-setting committee of the US Federal Reserve, lowered the key interest rates by 25 basis points (bp). The upper limit of the federal funds target rate is now at 4.75%. The press release highlighted the good economic performance and the increased, yet low, unemployment rate. The committee noted that while inflation is approaching the 2% target, it is still somewhat too high. The FOMC views the risks to achieving the dual mandate of inflation targeting and full employment as essentially balanced and emphasizes that both sides of the dual mandate are being closely monitored.
