EU News Monthly April 2024 On 31 March 2024, Bulgaria and Romania become Schengen members: the Schengen rules will apply in both Member States including on issuing Schengen visas and controls at the internal air and sea borders will be lifted. In the fourth quarter of 2023, seasonally adjusted GDP remained stable in the EU, compared with the previous quarter, in the third quarter of 2023, GDP had remained also stable. EU annual inflation was 2.8% in February 2024, down from 3.1% in January. A year earlier, the rate was 9.9%. The lowest annual rates were registered in Latvia, Denmark (both 0.6%). The highest annual rates were recorded in Romania (7.1%) and Croatia (4.8%). According to the European Commission, China subsidies its car manufacturers. EU investigators found evidence of direct financial transactions from the government to car manufacturers, as well as other support mechanisms. |
