EU News Monthly February 2024 The EU will soon welcome Bulgaria and Romania into the Schengen area, the largest area of free movement in the world. In March 2024, there will no longer be controls at the air and sea borders of the two countries. The prime ministers and presidents of the EU countries agreed in Brussels on the update of the EU's multiannual budget and together with it, on additional aid for Ukraine in the amount of €50 billion. New car registrations in the EU +13.9% in 2023 compared to 2022, reaching a full-year volume of 10.5 million units. All EU markets grew in the past year except for Hungary (-3.4%). The battery-electric car market share reached 14.6% in 2023. In 2022, the number of battery-only electric passenger cars in the EU countries almost reached 3.0 million, which is a +55% increase compared with 2021 (1.9 million). |
