Will the mood in the banking sector stay positive? The risk premiums on senior bank bonds have fallen noticeably since the beginning of the year. The main reason for the positive sentiment is the banks' good earnings situation. Even after the ECB's first interest rate cut, we do not expect a pronounced decline in core earnings at banks in the coming months. The future is more uncertain when it comes to the development of credit quality and risk costs. Maintaining the profitability of banks will therefore be particularly important for market sentiment.
