AT: Economy recovers, inflation eases The Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO) today published its flash estimate of Austrian economic output in 1Q24. According to the institute, Austrian GDP fell by -1.3% y/y and grew by +0.2% compared to 4Q. This is the first sign of stabilization after a decline in 3Q23 (-0.3% q/q) and 4Q23 (0.0% q/q). We expect the extremely moderate economic recovery to continue in the coming months. Overall, we expect moderate GDP growth of +0.4% in 2024. In addition, Statistics Austria published its flash estimate of Austrian inflation today. Inflation as measured by the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) was 3.4%, -0.7% compared to March 2024. We expect inflation to continue its downward trend in 2024. For 2024 as a whole, we expect HICP inflation of around 3.5%. |
