SDG: Visible progress amid several challenges

Hungary achieved visible developments

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were set up in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and are intended to be achieved by 2030. At the core of the agenda is a list of 17 SDGs that address global challenges, such as ending poverty and hunger, promoting good health and well-being and quality of education. They also highlight the need to stand up for human rights and protect the environment.

Compared to the EU average, Hungary is above the threshold in five SDGs and below the line in nine categories. However, Hungary has been progressing in most of the goals. On the bright side as well, we can highlight that there is no area in which the Hungarian status is below the average and is moving away from the SDG.

The most significant progress has been achieved in the fields of reducing poverty, decent work and economic growth and good health and well being. Unfortunately, regarding moderating inequalities, Hungary has been moving away from the goal. There is also still a lot of space to improve with respect to affordable and clean energy and gender equality issues.
