No need for action by the US Fed

Next week, the US Federal Reserve will decide on key interest rates. We and the market expect unchanged interest rates for the second consecutive meeting of the interest rate-setting body FOMC.

As for the outlook, the FOMC will certainly leave the door open for a December rate hike. After all, in the September survey of meeting participants, 12 out of 19 respondents indicated that they still expected a rate hike by the end of the year. The economic data of recent weeks should not have triggered a change in opinion.

Next week (October 31), a first flash estimate of Eurozone inflation for October will be published. We expect a further slight decline in inflation in October, mainly due to a continued downward trend in food prices as well as core inflation.

Next week (October 31), a first flash estimate of EZ GDP growth in 3Q23 will be published. Following a further deterioration in business and household sentiment in the third quarter, we expect the economy to stagnate further.
