Markets wait for US Fed and Eurozone inflation The FOMC, the body of the US Federal Reserve that decides on monetary policy, meets next week. A change in key interest rates can be virtually ruled out. Nevertheless, it will be an exciting meeting and subsequent press conference by Fed Chairman Powell. The question is how those in charge will react to the latest data, which on the whole showed a solid economy and a renewed rise in price pressure. The first flash estimate of inflation in the Eurozone for April will also be published. In March, inflation fell to 2.4% y/y (previously 2.6% y/y). We expect a further slight decline in April. In addition, the first flash estimate of GDP growth in the Eurozne for 1Q24 will be released. Eurozone GDP stagnated once again in 4Q23, mainly due to a significant decline in GDP of 0.3% q/q in Germany. For 1Q24, we expect the Eurozone economy to continue to stagnate or grow only slightly at best. |
