Growth with more sustainability

On 24 March, the first flash estimate of the Eurozone purchasing managers’ index (PMI) was published for March. Although both components, manufacturing and services, came in above expectations, the sentiment remains mixed. The vaccination rate of the population will be crucial for the services sector. It should speed up its increase from the second quarter onwards due to the expected rise in vaccine availability.

For many market participants, the post-corona growth potential offers a great opportunity to focus even more on sustainability, not the least motivated by EU regulatory framework: Numerous banks have recently announced that they will be abandoning coal financing, issuers are increasingly integrating ESG features into their transactions and benefiting from lower spreads, and investors have been showing more interest in sustainable alternatives than in conventional ones.
