Start of the year with a green wave

The new year got off to a successful start for green bonds. In January 2024, green euro bonds with a volume of around EUR 41bn were issued. This is an increase of almost 40% compared to the same month in 2023.

Covered bonds have become significantly cheaper in recent months. This applies both in terms of swap spreads and in comparison to senior bank bonds. Risk premiums are currently at or even above the level of April 2020, when the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic led to extreme uncertainty on the capital markets. We see good opportunities for a trend reversal in the market valuation of covered bonds.
