Regional currencies at crossroads

The ECB meeting on September 10 is important to watch. Further ECB easing is unlikely, which could prove short-term support for the euro. COVID-19 is spreading fast, however, especially in Czechia and Hungary. The latter country has other local factors too, which caused the forint to drop in August and early September. Should the HUF weaken further, the central bank may find out that, it will not be enough to simply reiterate that there will be no cuts in short-term rates.
