ECB raises and signals stable interest rates The Governing Council decided today to raise key interest rates (once again) by 25 basis points. At the same time, there were clear indications that that key rates may have peaked. On balance, the Governing Council evidently sees inflation moving onto the right path, even if there is still a long way to go to reach the inflation target. However, progress in core inflation, a weak economy and the interest rate level reached with today's rate hike now make the Governing Council confident that no further rate hikes will be necessary. We concur with this view. |
