A stress test for eurozone banks?
The collapse of the U.S. Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) has also caused turmoil in Europe, both on the stock and bond markets.
While European banks are also affected by both positive and negative effects of rising interest rates, it is still helpful to be aware of the different framework conditions.
With their good starting position in terms of earnings and asset quality, as well as additional options to raise liquidity, eurozone banks are relatively well prepared for potential market shocks.
However, we expect that the collapse of the SVB could also increase the focus in Europe on a diversified deposit base and the size and composition of the banks' liquidity buffer.
